职业、身份(Occupation)


特点:在这类对话中,由于说话人之间的关系不同,其用词造句、语气都有区别,在此基础上再捕捉有关信息,然后判断、推测人物之间的关系及其身份。
考题中常涉及到的职业有:
老师与学生:teacher, student, classmate, library, grade, mark, score, term, pass, fail, scholarship
医生与病人:doctor, patient, fever, cold, cough, headache, injection, prescription, diagnose
顾客与营业员:shop��assistant, attendant, customer, shopper, sale, reduction, bargain, cashier
邮局、银行职员和顾客: postman, letter, mail, postcard, money order, deposit, check, loan
餐厅服务员与顾客:menu, steak, ham, salad, soup, coffee, juice, hamburger, buffet, bar, order
常见的提问方式:
Who is the man/woman?
What is the man’s/woman’s job/profession/occupation?
What is the probable relationship between the two speakers?

在这类题中,由于对话中不直接给出说话者的职业身份,然而其话题必然反映出身份、职业和特征。因此,考生只要注意其对话内容,即相关术语和特定环境就可从中选出正确答案。例如:
W: There is a direct flight at 10 o’clock or a flight at 2 this afternoon that stops over in San Francisco.
M: I think I’d rather leave earlier. So I can go to work tomorrow.
Q: What relationship does these people have?
[A] husband and wife [B] doctor and nurse
[C] salesclerk and customer [D] airline agent and customer

对话中的关键词flight, stop over与飞机场有关,再听男士的回答:我宁愿早走以便明天能上班,对话很可能发生在航空售票员与顾客之间,故选[D]。
