More than a third of bosses believe some of their female colleagues wear too much make-up to work, according to a poll.
Having bright red lips, over made-up eyes and too much blusher were seen as the biggest sins in the workplace, according to the survey by officebroker.com.
Over made-up eyes polled 28 per cent of the vote, while 15 per cent said too much blusher was a turn off. But more than one in 10 (12 per cent) bosses said they liked women to wear some make-up to work.
However, nearly all said they believed wearing just a modest amount was suitable, the poll of 500 male and female bosses found.
An officebroker.com spokesman said: ‘Most of us try to look our best at work but sometimes people may go over the top to impress.
'As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and what one person likes, another may well hate but the common theme was that less really was more when it came to professional appearance.
'The bosses we spoke to had no problem with people making an effort to look good in the office, but sometimes had an issue with the quantity of make-up used.’
