At the Volleyball World Cup in Japan on Friday, China had a chance to book it's ticket to the London 2012 Olympic Games. The top three finishers at the World Cup would earn an automatic berth and China neded to beat Germany.
But the task for China, would not be easy as they came into this match in 3rd, Germany in 5th. China, needing everything to go right to stay in that critical third place. The two teams previously met twice this year, with China winning both. Germany however, got off to a good start in the opening set...jumping out to a 4-1 early lead. After that though, it was all China as they found their groove to take it 25-18.
The second set would follow the same storyline as the first...Germany jumping out early, but China coming back to take the lead and the set, China winning set 25-18.
That left China, one set away from a spot in next summer's Olympics, and the Chinese women would get the job done, winning the third 25-21 to fnish the World Cup in third place and earn their place in the field for London 2012.
