Now, decades later, the woman has come forward, and is revealing the inside scoop of her day with Elvis in Vanity Fair.
Barbara Gray – then Bobbi Owens – had spoken with an emerging singer named Elvis on the phone in 1956 and had arranged to meet him in Richmond, Virginia.
When they met in person, they spent the day together, and photographer Alfred Wertheimer captured it all.
As they went to the Mosque Theatre, where Elvis was performing that day, he photographed them flirting and being playful in the back seat of the taxi.
But at the theatre, Mr Wertheimer grew concerned when he found he had lost his subject just before the show was about to start.
