PART 1: Model Response
Family and Relationships
l Could you tell me something about your family?
Sure. There are altogether four people in my family – my parents, my younger sister and myself. Both of my parents work at a local hospital, but they don’t see each other very often because my father is a surgeon and my mother is a nurse who works on the night shift. My little sister Susan is in the 10th grade, and I am a college student majoring in graphics design.
l Do you and your wife have different responsibilities in the family? What are they?
Yes, domestic responsibilities in my family are clearly defined. My wife usually does most of the household chores such as washing, cleaning and cooking, while my job is to take care of some physical tasks like repairing furniture and painting and repainting our house. In general, she has greater responsibilities because she has to take care of our 3-year-old son Nate.
l Who has given you the greatest influence in your family?
I think my father has given me a lot of influence in my family. He has been very strict with me since I was a little boy. However, he always allows me to choose my own path in my life and is extremely supportive of every decision I have made. My father is also very good at developing my imagination, creativity and independence by playing many interesting games with me and taking me to various museums around the city.
l Do you prefer to live by yourself or live with your parents?
I prefer to live by myself, I think. Well, it is not such a bad thing to live with my parents – I mean, sometimes they can look after me better than I do myself. But if I choose to live away from them, there would be more personal time for me to study, make new friends and even take some casual jobs to cover my tuition. Despite the loneliness, I believe that living alone really helps me to think independently.
